A place to think

I’m still figuring out what I want my life to look like. There are goals I want to work toward, things I want to understand, and questions I don’t expect to answer quickly. I’d like this site to hold some of that thinking.

Goals are one place to start. I want to ask what mine are actually for. What would change if I reached them? Would I enjoy the life I had to live along the way? It is easy to picture an outcome and pay less attention to the ordinary days that make it possible.

Where those goals come from matters, too. Some ambitions feel personal. Others can sound right simply because they are familiar or admired. I want to get better at telling the difference before giving something years of my attention.

Some of what I learn will come from trying. A decision might turn out differently than I expected. Something that seemed important might matter less with time. Writing about those moments could help me understand what happened, including the part my own expectations played.

Other entries may begin with a conversation, something I read, or an ordinary moment that leaves me with a question. I’m interested in small shifts, too. Understanding someone a little better. Noticing why I reacted the way I did. Finding words for something I had only vaguely felt.

I would also like to keep the thoughts I later disagree with. An opinion can feel convincing when it is written and look incomplete a year later. Having a record of both versions could help me see what changed and what I had overlooked.

I’m curious about how my sense of a good life will change as I live more of it. Which goals will still matter? What will become important that I haven’t thought much about yet? I’d like to come back to these pages and remember what I was trying to understand, even when I see things differently.
